David was additionally a sought-after teacher at the Leipzig Conservatory, editor and composer. His works are all but forgotten today, with one exception: his Concertino for trombone and orchestra. The charming work with Mendelssohnian character has firmly established itself in the trombone repertoire and is today one of the standard international audition pieces.
