The Great Nebula in Orion is as much a piece of musical theater as it is an extended art song for two singing actors with accompaniment. The women in The Great Nebula in Orion attempt (not always successfully) to sing emotions and sentiments that are important to them. The musical becomes as much a piece about trying to (or learning how to) sing as it is about a reunion of two old friends.
